What is the difference between a check card and credit card? They both carry a VISA® logo?

A VISA® check card carries the function of both a debit card and an ATM card. The VISA® portion of the card allows members to make withdrawals by signing for purchases as 'credit' at a merchant's location. The funds will automatically be pulled from your checking account. The check card can also be used at an ATM for cash withdrawals from both checking and savings accounts.

The VISA® credit card is attached to a line of credit. You will receive a monthly bill for your purchases and cash advances made during the billing cycle. Your payment will be applied to pay down the outstanding balance owed. As you pay down your balance the credit is extended again. It is a revolving line of credit with card access.

Yes, when using your debit card, you may use it as a debit or credit transaction.  Choosing debit means you will use your PIN and choosing credit means you will not use your PIN.  However, either method will ultimately be deducted from the checking account.   The debit card can never be used to charge a transaction to your credit card account.

If you are a first time user, click on the Register button in the top right corner of TuscaloosaCU.org, input the requested information and create a User ID and password.

What are the items under Pending Transactions in Online Account Access?

The Authorization Holds are authorizations from merchants where you have used your debit card to pay for your purchase. The dollar amount pending is the authorization amount processed by the merchant; however, this amount may differ from the amount that actually posts. An example would be going out to a restaurant. If your bill is $30.00 and you leave a $6.00 tip, the pre-notification hold may only appear for $30.00 but the posted transaction amount will be $36.00. Holds generally remain on your account for up to five business days. Not all merchants submit pre-authorizations. The best way to avoid any confusion with your account is to deduct the amount spent from your check book register immediately.

Under ACH Transactions, you can sometimes see direct deposits and ACH drafts that are pending to post to your account. These transactions are posted at night and should have the date they will post listed. Just because you cannot see a direct deposit or ACH draft pending does not mean that it will not post that night. Not all transactions show pending before they post.
